CFP: Animal Geography Graduate Paper Competition

The Animal Geography Specialty Group (AnGSG) of the AAG invites emerging animal geography scholars to submit to our annual Graduate Student Paper Award competition.

Eligible papers must be based on original empirical or theoretical research (basic literature reviews are not eligible) in the field of Animal Geography and engage directly with these literatures. Papers that engage with other literatures (e.g., conservation biology, animal sociology, etc.) are welcome, but the primary emphasis must be on the animal geographic literature or they will not be considered. Papers submitted to other AAG paper competitions are not eligible, nor arepapers that have already been published. The student must be a member of the AnGSG at the time of submission and the sole author of the paper. The student is not required to present at the AAG meeting to submit a paper to the competition.

Manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words, and should be accompanied by a cover letter that includes the title of the paper, a brief abstract (maximum 250 words), the name of the author, academic affiliation, mailing address, email address and phone number. Papers will be evaluated by a subcommittee of AnGSG members. One $200 cash prize will be awarded to the winner, whose name will be announced just prior to the AAG meeting. The name of the winner will also be announced in both the AAG and AnGSG newsletters.

Submissions must be received by February 26, 2016.  Please send the paper in electronic form (.doc, .docx, or .pdf) to the AnGSG Chair, Mona Seymour (mona.seymour@lmu.edu).  Please put “AnGSG paper submission” in the subject line of the email.   Questions about the paper award may be directed to Mona Seymour.
